I don’t know about you, but I spend *way* too much time trying to put outfits together in the morning. And its not because I am spoilt for choice: My wardrobe is crying out for some love and attention and is in desperate need of some lovely new pieces, but what exactly?
Lucky for us, the forever stylish and gorgeous TV presenter and Pacific Werribee ambassador Lauren Phillips was happy to chat to us about her go-to fashion tips for spring and summer.
Q&A: Lauren Phillips’ fashion tips for spring
Date night. It doesn’t happen very often, but when it does I want to look HOT. What should this 30-40 something wear?
Date night is very important and I’m a big fan of buying a new outfit to make you feel sexy and confident. I think the perfect outfit would a balance of looking sweet/feminine and adding a leather jacket for a touch of edginess. From the bottom up, black jeans and heels are a staple, but try adding a long sleeve top that has a shoulder cut-out, it’s all about showing a little ‘unexpected skin’. Lace is also huge in stores at the moment, so you can pick up a cute lace cami to wear with your jeans.
The colour of summer is ….
Pale pink/blush/rose – you should definitely have a piece that is one of these tones, they go great with denim.
Shorts.. How low or high should you go?
I’m going to go with mid-rise. They sit right under your belly button, not too high and not too low. Culotte shorts are my pick for this Spring, they have a floaty, flattering material/shape.
You should never wear anything that…
Makes you feel uncomfortable. I’m completely taking advantage of the popular trainer/sneaker trend with skirts and dresses. Why be uncomfortable in heels, if you can be just as stylish and comfortable in a cool pair of trainers.
The best outfit for you is the one that…
Works with my height. I’m on the shorter side, so I find that A-line miniskirts and heels work for my figure. I have been loving the over-the-knee boot trend as it works with dresses and skirts that I have in my wardrobe, they are trans-seasonal.
Are there any sort of classic looks still on trend this season?
Off the shoulder blouses are here to stay, they are extremely flattering and suit any figure.
If I only buy one new outfit this season, it should be….
A lovely chambray set. I love everything chambray for spring. Seed Heritage have a dark chambray set in its recent collection which is a cute off the shoulder top with ties on the sleeves and matching dark chambray pants. Simple, stylish and easy.
Why is it important to update your own wardrobe, and not just the kids?
It’s important that we all embrace our individual style to feel confident and empowered. It was actually a key factor in my latest campaign with Pacific Werribee, which is all about showcasing how embracing your personal style has the power to boost your confidence. So if you need that new outfit to feel great about yourself, go for it, you deserve it.
