A local’s guide on Fiji family fun

It’s the tropical paradise that brings a smile to the face of every international visitor. Fiji is practically perfect in every way. Turquoise blue waters, sugar white beaches and enough activities to keep any traveller entertained. So, it’s hardly a surprise that the South Pacific gem is top of the list for family holidays.

Today we speak to International Model and Fiji Airways Ambassador, Phillipa Steele, who grew up on the country’s Coral Coast, to get her top local tips on how to have fun with the family in Fiji.

Where to Stay

My beautiful homeland is made up of more than 300 magical islands, so it’s harder choosing where not to stay! Luckily, because Fiji welcomes so many overseas visitors, the country is home to affordable and world class resorts and hotels. And it’s certainly a case of family comes first at Fiji’s resorts and hotels, with every option featuring an array of kids’ clubs and activities.

  • If you’re staying on Denarau Island, then it’s hard to go past the Sheraton. Luxury meets local charm with the Sheraton offering the best of both worlds.
  • The Shangri La is the jewel in the crown of the Coral Coast – my hometown! Tucked away on the Yanuca Islands, you’ll truly feel like you’re in another world.
  • The Sofitel is also a family favourite. Resting on the edge of Nadi Bay, it offers direct access to some of Fiji’s best beaches.

Regardless of where you end up, the magic of Fiji is so overwhelming, I guarantee you’ll fall in love and never want to leave (little ones included).

Lowdown on Kids’ Clubs

Sometimes a family holiday can be anything but relaxing for a parent but in Fiji, that’s far from the truth. Fiji is home to the best kids’ clubs in the world, offering activities that will keep little ones entertained while parents enjoy some well-earned time off. Book them in for a day and chances are they’ll be hooked for the entire trip! Kids’ clubs mix our local traditions – grass skirt making, Fijian dancing and sarong painting – with educational activities and lots of outdoor fun! It’s a guilt free way of letting yourself unwind while your kids experience some big adventures! From The Turtle Club at the Sofitel to the LaiLai Kids Club at the Sheraton, you’ll be spoilt for choice when it comes to spoiling the kids!

Family-Friendly Activities in Fiji

The best part about travelling this tropical paradise as a family is that there are so many fun experiences designed to be shared.

  • Sigatoka Sand Dunes

Growing up in Fiji meant exploring the land as a family. My top tip is to spend a day uncovering the beauty of the Sigatoka Sand Dunes. Located in the Sigatoka National Park on the Coral Coast, the dunes are breathtaking. Standing sixty metres high and stretching for more than five kilometres, these dunes are an unforgettable sight.

  • Sabeto Hot Springs and Mud Pools

Find the fun in getting muddy with a day trip to the Sabeto Hot Springs and Mud Pools. The natural hot springs of Nadi are perfect for your skin and your kids will love splashing about.

  • Kula Eco Park

If your kids are curious about nature and wildlife, why not plan a visit to the Kula Eco Park? You’ll learn about Fiji’s amazing ecosystem while also being introduced to some of Fiji’s more famous faces, including the crested iguana!

  • South Sea Island Day Trip

If your family is looking for fun in the sun, spend a day on the water with a South Sea Island day trip. From snorkelling to scuba diving and even a spot of fishing, there’s something for everyone when you take to the high seas. It’s easy to organise through your resort and will leave a lasting memory that your family won’t soon forget.
